I didn't catch many gigs this year, but the few i did were fantastic. My favourite one was Moderat (David Byrne a close second!). I really didn't know what to expect but they blew my mind. Firstly, it was an awesome experience: meeting my fellow RDR groupies for the first time haha in some middle of nowhere warehouse in Tanjong Pagar, feeling out of our depth in the middle of all those happening rave party people, managing to stand right in front of the stage, meeting Modeselektor after the show! And their set itself was incredible. Highlight of the night (and their album too) was Rusty Nails for me.
Combining a sick Modeselektor beat and Apparat's ambient keyboards and hazy vocal, it manages to be downright catchy yet dreamily beautiful at the same time. The way it sucks you in just before the hook is my favourite part.
