#16: Light A Candle by Neil Young

My favourite evergreen rockstar released his 33rd solo album, Fork In The Road in April, and continued to show why there really isn't anyone like him in rock and roll today, touring and blowing audiences to bits, including that legendary Glastonbury set in June.

And while his new album was full of dirty riffs and awesome jams, and sharp, funny as hell lyrics, my favourite track was the quietest one on it, this folksy little ditty that carried quite a different type of punch. It showed his other trademark, a contemplative and melancholy Neil singing in that trademark voice, that while probably not as pretty as it was 40 years ago on After The Gold Rush, is still as haunting as ever.

And the lyrics! Beautiful and yet so apt for the times. "Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle for where we're going / There's something ahead worth looking for.. It's a chance to give new meaning to every move we make" It's almost like he wrote it for the Copenhagen climate change summit going on right now.
