Beak> - I Know

Portishead's Geoff Barrow's new side band, BEAK>, has released its debut album. It can be streamed in its entirety on the band's site, and you can buy it from there too. I haven't listened to it all, but the one sampler track i got, 'I Know', has been on repeat recently and it's got me very interested.

On first listen my thoughts were 'meh' and 'Portishead - Beth = :('. But i've realised for awhile now how rare it is for a good song to hit you on the first few listens. The song's built around a stuttering beat a la Arpeggi while synths slide around each other, and the distant, indecipherable vocals add a nice touch. The feel of the song, dark, raw and droning with an awesome beat, reminds me of Can somewhat. Onto my seventh straight repeat, it's really hypnotic. Need to listen to the whole album soon.
