David Byrne / Battles in Singapore

Prayers really do get answered. I know i was ranting about having no good concerts to go see, and apparently someone powerful was reading because there are already two or three lined up in the new year that i can't wait for!

Firstly, David Byrne of Talking Heads fame will be performing with his band at the Suntec Convention Centre, 21 January. Apparently, he'll be performing songs from his many collaborations with musical genius Brian Eno, which started with their 1981 collaboration My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts and their latest record Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, both of which i'm still wrapping my head around. I'm really excited to hear some Talking Heads songs though, been listening to Remain In Light (one of 3 Heads albums produced by Eno) recently and it is brilliant, funky, groovy and very affecting.

Secondly, abit more obscure (which means cheaper tix :) American band Battles are playing at the Esplanade March 18. I liked what i heard of their 2007 debut full length Mirrored, although it takes awhile to 'understand' them, patience with their complicated experiments of songs pays off, with their hard hitting rhythms and shifting tempo changes, often layered guitar work and the occasional killer riff. Atlas is one of my favourite songs from them, their drummer's really great. I'll probably have to get more listens in if i'm going to see them though.

Lastly, i could've sworn i saw an ad saying Mogwai were playing here on January 23. However apparently i got all excited for nothing as i can't find anything online about it, and Mogwai's website don't list the show. They are however playing Taiwan and then Hong Kong the week before the 23rd, so who knows. I'll keep my eye on this.
