Animal Collective have always been too 'experimental' or 'challenging' for me to listen to (ie i couldn't be bothered!) But this year i finally started getting into them. And this song is probably the main reason why. Give it a few listens to get going and it will shimmer its way through your ears and start swimming around your brain with its shiny, summery loops and unbelievably catchy harmonies.
It starts out simple enough but they keep adding layer after layer until it becomes a cacophony of pure bliss. While the lyrics about a father wanting to provide for his family are meaningful enough on their own, Panda Bear and Avey Tare make it sound like it's the most natural and joyfully ecstatic thing a man could ever want to do. And it probably is too.
