Jónsi - Boy Lilikoi

Apart from Sigur Rós, Jónsi has been doing plenty of solo stuff recently. He released the beautiful Riceboy Sleeps with partner Alex Somers in July, and it looks like he's recording a new solo album due sometime next year. Called Go, he's apparently been working on it with composer Nico Muhly who's done stuff with Grizzly Bear and Antony and the Johnsons, and words been going around that it'll be mainly an acoustic record with plenty of 'strings, woodwinds, brass and double bass'.

He's just put up the song 'Boy Lilikoi' for download on his website for free, and it's a beautiful, summer-y song. The instrumentation and arrangment does remind me of Sigur Rós's latest album, acoustic instruments and Jónsi's voice very much upfront, accompanied by pretty strings. The woodwinds are a great surprise, very catchy. In fact the arrangement sounds even more lush than that record, plenty of things going on, more than i can catch at one go! And it has that mid-song swell that adorns many a Sigur Rós song.

Bodes well for his solo record. On a side note, my exams ended today! songboh
