All For The Best

A couple of weeks back i posted about the Mark Mulcahy tribute album coming out, and this week Stereogum premiered Thom Yorke's cover of "All For The Best".

It's a great track, it's a proper cover and Thom puts his own spin on it. The distorted guitars that kick in halfway were a really nice surprise. It reminds of The Eraser alot obviously, but not only because of the production but also the way Thom sings it, kinda laid back and relaxed but still tinged with emotion. Very Atoms for Peace or Cymbal Rush etc. And his brother Andy sings backing!

Well i had a listen to the original by Miracle Legion (Mark Mulcahy's band) after i heard Thom's cover and i have to say the original is even better, it is such a beautiful song. The lyrics are just beautiful and Mark Mulcahy sings them so heartrendingly:

One day the storm will roll away
and soon you'll see
You're far away from home but never far away from me
and that's all for the best

I love the rocking guitar and harmonica solos as well, very uniquely done. I shall be checking out more Miracle Legion. Oh here's the original anyway.
