Dancer in the Dark

I've just finished watching Dancer in the Dark, and i am pretty depressed. Don't get me wrong, it is such a beautiful movie, innovative and boundary breaking, impactful in its delivery and Bjork is just amazing. But it is sad, quite frightening and totally heartbreaking. That scene between Bill and Selma (Bjork), and also the ending, lump in my throat. Some critics called it emotionally manipulative, but isn't that what we are subjecting ourselves to when watching movies eh. One gripe could be the logic of the plot doesn't quite match the emotion (her son gains sight but loses his mother?) but overall a wonderful movie. Just terribly emotionally taxing.

Amazing soundtrack by Bjork though, they're used in the musical parts of the story where Selma daydreams mundane and upsetting situations into wonderful musical scenes. All the little sounds and crazy rhythms, great.

'And what about China, have you seen the Great Wall?'
'All walls are great if the roof doesn't fall'
